This week's Alv's track of the week is from one of the BEST CATCHES of 2008, The Script. This is the band whom I think have given another edge in 2day's music. Why? Coz their songs are each stories of their own!!! I have loved this band ever since the 1st single, We Cry, came out, because I like the uniqueness of their musical style, especially the lyrics! I always think, 'that's it for music. How much better can it get?' Then this band pops up and creates a style that NO ONE ELSE have done! Fresh! It's just amazing and definitely, this has been a really great year for The Script...
Here, I shall bring you through the 3 singles they have released so far. (of course, all are awesome! :D)
P.S. I'm not going to describe much about the first two singles, since the track of the week I'm promoting is the 3rd single. ;)
What I say:
Great song. Yes there is one censored part for the lyrics, but that censoring didn't affect the overall song a single bit! It's still as great. The lyrics, the rhythm in the song, even the video itself! :D Those who never heard of any type of english music before (i'm not sure about chinese/jap/korean music :S), this is something really fresh for the ears. According to Danny the lead singer, the song is about people he knew in the town he grew up in. It "reflects the tough times that life has in store but that these times could be endured if everybody was hard together." He also "referred to the loss of his father five months after a bandmate lost his mother to a terrible illness and claimed that such events could be overcome if people stuck together." ~Wikipedia. That's a great introduction of your band to the world! In short, the song is about unity in strength, and how to overcome all the difficulties you might have and most importantly, coming out good from there. The Script actually originated from another band called Mytown, where they sounded more like Westlife -.- But then they changed a couple of people, and came back. And this time, they succeeded DAMN WELL! New name, new style which no one has tried (and suceeded before), that is what the music nowadays need! ;)
From this song onwards, I knew The Script is going to be the next big thing ALL AROUND THE WORLD...

2nd single - The Man Who Can't Be Moved
What I say:
Before this song, no one really knew much about the kind of beautiful lyrics The Script can come up with. But after this song, they have shown their status as one of, or probably, THE BEST love lyrics songwriters OF ALL TIME!!! The song mainly talks about an after-breakup, where the guy is adamant about loving this one girl and is going to wait for her at 'the place where they meet' no matter what. Talk about perseverance...but this song has to be seen with the lyrics, because the lyrics is what makes the song so darn good! Here's a few snippets of the lyrics.
"Some try to hand me money, they don't understand. I'm not broke, I'm just a broken hearted man"
"I said, 'there's someone I'm waiting for, even if it's a day, a month, a year.' Gotta stand my ground even if it rains or snows. If she changes her mind, this is the first place she will go."
"There on no hole in his shoes, but a big hole in his world"
"Maybe I'll get famous as the man who can't be moved. And maybe you won't mean to, but you'll see me on the news. And you'll come running to the corner, coz you'll know it's just for you."
In fact, song of the lyrics are on my very own blogspot already! If you've noticed, that is. ;) My reply to the other artists in the world, TOP THAT!!! This is just brilliant, it's really unrequited yet persevering love!!! Further proves my point that The Script are going big. Really, really big!
5/5!!!
Alv's track of the week (3rd single) - Breakeven (video not for the immature -.-)
The video:
The video first shows pictures of a woman in happier times with Danny, and also Danny singing in their home city of Dublin, Ireland. This is followed by the band performing live on stage. There are also quite a number of saucy snippets of Danny and a woman, hence, NOT FOR THE IMMATURE! -.-As the video approaches the 2nd half, it moves from the happy times between Danny and the girl to the part where they break up, with a scene showing the woman leaving the house with her luggage packed. The scenes soon moved back to the happy times, as though it's recalling the good times they use to have. As the video moves to the end, it shows the woman leaving in a car, turning back looking at Danny, and Danny looked back. She then turns back to the driver, supposedly her current lover, and Danny turns back walking in the opposite direction.
The GOOD, and the bad:
I kinda like the unique title, and I'm not saying The Man Who Can't Be Moved isn't. Hehe in fact, The Man Who Can't Be Moved is a much more creative title! This is because there is the use of homonym. (one word with two different meanings)
1) Moved in the sense that (in the song) he will not move away from his spot no matter what.
2) Moved as in 'emotionally moved'.
Brilliant! Ok back to Breakeven, the lyrics is absolutely awesome! It just underlines, maybe even bold :P, their status as awesome love songwriters. As Shan Wee from 987FM puts it, "no one writes better lyrics than The Script." It's hard to fault that, no doubt! You have to listen closely to the guitar play in the song. Similar to The Man Who Can't Be Moved, the song has elaborate guitar play that brings out the uniqueness of both songs. ;) Apparently, Breakeven overtook The Man Who Can't Be Moved on the 91.3 Top 30 Countdown, coming in 1st for two consecutive weeks! The Man Who Can't Be Moved peaked at number 3, if I'm not wrong. But Breakeven outmuscled T.I. and Rihanna's Live Your Life, which has been on the number 1 spot for 3 consecutive weeks. Wow, not many people can outwit, probably outlast veterans like T.I. and Rihanna for a number 1 spot, not even talking about staying there! Now you know...
However, now for the not-so-good part. I shall just be honest and say, I HATE THE SAUCY PARTS OF THE VIDEO. I just don't get it! Is there a need for that? There are many ways to depict this song about a woman being unfaithful, but does it have to be this way? The song may be good, but the images may dissuade many people from trying to like The Script. Wrong script, The Script!
In conclusion, the saucy images are not needed at all. The Script should have kept this love song closer to the heart, not skin. Luckily, the lyrics and beautiful melody and guitar play saves the song for a good rating. ;)

Current Music Playing: Breakeven by The Script
I'm still alive but I'm barely breathing
Just prayed to a god that I don't believe in
'Coz I've got time while she got freedom
'Coz when a heart breaks no it don't breakeven
Her best days will be some of my worst
She finally met a man who's gonna put her first
While I'm wide awake she's no trouble sleeping
'Coz when a heart breaks no it don't breakeven
What am I suppose to do, when the best part of me, was always you?
What am I suppose to say, when I'm all choked up, and you're ok?
I'm falling to pieces, yea
I'm falling to pieces
They say bad things happen for a reason
But no wise word's gonna stop the bleeding
'Coz she's moved on while I'm still grieving
But when a heart breaks no it don't breakeven (even, no)
What am I suppose to do, when the best part of me, was always you?
What am I suppose to say, when I'm all choked up, and you're ok?
I'm falling to pieces, yea
I'm falling to pieces, yea
I'm falling to pieces (one still in love while the other one's leavin')
I'm falling to pieces ('cos when a heart breaks no it don't breakeven)
Oh, you've got his heart and my heart and none of the pain
You took your suitcase, I took the blame.
Now I'm trying to make sense of what little remains
Oh, 'coz you left me with no love,
With no love to my name.
I'm still alive but I'm barely breathing
Just prayed to a god that I don't believe in
'Coz I got time while she got freedom
'Coz when a heart breaks no it don't break,
no it don't break, no it don't break even, no...
What am I gonna do, when the best part of me, was always you?
What am I suppose to say, when I'm all choked up, and you're ok? (oh and you're ok)
I'm falling to pieces, yea
I'm falling to pieces, yea
I'm falling to pieces (one still in love while the other one's leavin')
I'm falling to pieces ('coz when a heart breaks no it don't breakeven)
Oh, it don't breakeven, no
Oh, it don't breakeven, no
Oh, it don't breakeven, no
Oh I just found this. It talks about a little background of the bandmates and what Danny the lead singer said about their self-titled album and the debut single, We Cry. Really touching to me...
Just as The Script were about to record, Mark's mother became very ill; so the band moved back to their hometown Dublin. They recorded there for some time. Four months after Mark's mother passed away, Danny's father died from an unexpected heart attack.
"I came home so that Mark could spend time with his mum, little did I know that I was actually getting to spend that precious time with my dad," reveals Danny. "But then amidst all this travesty and disaster, these songs have risen out of it. That was the time when it finally came home to me how important music was to me, 'cause in my darkest moments that's what got me through."
"There is not a lot of hope in the song, cause not everybody's life is full of hope," explains Danny. "There's not always roses at the end. But out of all these things that have gone wrong in our lives and everybody else's lives, the message is 'together we cry'. Because as long as we're here together then we can find a way to share the burden." (Wikipedia)
Oh btw, I heard The Script are coming in April! Can't wait!!! But it's an important year next year. :S Ah well, I guess I'll have to use my Term 1's result to impress my parents to let me go. :P
