Btw, morning's tennis was so-so, coz i didn't play particularly, consistently well ): Apparently, after tennis training when I play for leisure wiv Nick n Wesley, I played so much better!!! >.<

2 words: Confidence issue. I seriously have to work on this. It's lyk the barrier to everything for me. :S I've been trying to step out and give myself confidence, by taking charge of helping SJ in EP stall's various admin stuff. However deep down inside, I know I need more than just that. I just know it.

Anyone hav any suggestions for me to overcome this more effectively? :D

Ok now to switch the mood mode to the ON section...EVENING!!! I actually thought it was going to be rather boring at my grandma's house, but turns out, I was an FOC tutor that day. Which 'alien' would learn from me? xD Hahax it's none other than my little young cousin, Jia En!

Super cute to see her running about. But the fun part was when I had to teach her English. My aunt kinda told her that she could ask 'kor-kor' teach her english. She must have thought it was a great idea, coz she kept on asking her mother to take the book out quickly! XD Cute fella. Then she scurried towards me and gave me a big smile. Of course, I smiled back lor, asking her wad she wanted me to teach her. And she gleefully turned the pages to see which fancies her.

I was quite surprised that despite being so young, she didn't go for the pictures to sketch. She actually went for the words with dotted lines. You know, the usual 'tracing the words' kind of kindergarten work. (oh the book isn't her homework, it's just a book her mum i.e. my aunt bought for her.) And all along, she didn't realise she didn't take a pen or pencil. -.-

In the end, a pen was chosen, with no ink. -.- So she went to and fro trying to find 1 with ink. Super funny to watch! XD

When a pen with ink is finally ready, the next funny part came when she tries to pronounce the english words. Her handwriting is so umm...kiddo! XD It's cute, though she still couldn't decide which is her dominant writing hand. Ultimately, it should be right hand ba. And because my grandma's place is kinda small, she was using my lap as a table!

Oh ya pronunciation! I keep reading the her 'dog', but she can't seem to pronounce the 'd' right. Hence, it means 'gorg'! Hahax and when she realises she can't pronounce, she give a squeaky laughter. Really a joy to have! Adding to that, she also keeps on asking mi help her write certain words which she duno how to. The thing I am surprised was that, she is really really attentive when I'm teaching her. o.o I try to be as casual as possible liaox, but she really puts a lot of effort in writing for me to see! ;) Quite evident when she asks me to look at what she wrote after every letter, and I must constantly give her the thumbs-up. XD

She then got kinda tired of writing and started drawing...snakes, which she also can't pronounce even in Chinese! HAHAX funi!!! Well they aren't really snakes, just scribbles of swirly lines then spammed the length of the page. XD I really wanted to teach her more, she wanted me to teach her more. How did I know? Coz she nv stopped writing although I could see that her hand getting stiff liaox. :S She even shook her right hand to loosen it after imitating mi. XD She really is a funny character...

Can you imagine a kid doing all these in front of u? Hahax...

Well from my experience with Jia En, I managed to do a lot of self-reflection of myself. 

1. I am actually very patient, just like what my uncle says! :D Of course, Jia En had a bit of baby temper and didn't want to rewrite certain words again, but I just kept on going at her pace. Whatever she wanted 2 learn, I try to help her learn the quickest way possible. ;) I kept my cool and just slowly teach her at her pace, rather than my fast pace, which apparently worked dividends! :D

2. There isn't one rigid way of teaching a child. At 1st, I thought she understood how to trace the lines, but apparently, she couldn't trace it all at once. Therefore, I pointed to each trace line ONE BY ONE, guiding her as to join which point to which other point. ;) Adding to that, at the start I thought I could just take the pen and write the correct letters so that she will comprehend. However, after a while, I realise the best way to teach her, is actually to hold her hand and write the alphabets one by one. Different kids pick up certain things at different levels of comprehension. 

3. last but certainly not the least, kids love pictorials. So try and act out some things like flying. Lucky I didn't take video of wad I did. :P 

Wow I did learn a lot from her! Amazing wad a kid can teach you. ~三人行必有我师~ always remember this... ;)

Really do hope I can teach her though. ;)

As for this week, my oh my. Many will question how come I actually will ever like this song. I can tell you, this is going to be the song of the year for a group of people. And as boys, I think we all go a little 'high' with such songs. XD So many clues liaox, guessed who will like this sort of...ahem...songs le mah? 

Simple, it's my class, 4E1's song!!! And what kind of 'high' song can it be? Of course, it has to be her, people! It's Stefani Germanotta, but all will know her better as...Lady Gaga, with a song called Poker Face.

The GOOD, and the bad:

Well well, this is also going to be short. I'm going to be quite critical about this. Argh just dun beat about the bush! The main thing I chose this song, was totally coz it's my class song now! Woohoo!

I've never really been interested in dance tracks in my life. But after listening 2 her 1st track, Just Dance, I started moving towards dance tracks BY HER. And here you have it. :D It has quite a catchy tune 2 it actually, very mysterious feel to the song.

However, if you minus those plus points, there really isn't much u can say about this, (unless of course, you hav other...ahem...things u are thinking in your minds while watching it)...

Throughout the whole video, it's just loaded with Lady Gaga in skimpy outfits, which are ahem...quite sianx after a while, since she isnt really beautiful. :P Even when she's wearing her trademark 'Pop Culture' square-ish sunglasses, she's still in skimpy outfits! >.<

I mean seriously, what can you not expect such things in a dance electropop track like Poker Face? The lyrics don't really make much sense, or rather it has meanings you don't really wanna know. (ahem) Quite evident when you see it below later. Anw, everyone just loves tunes from dance tracks, not the lyrics, rite? :D But i need to point out that it does have a few words which mean otherwise, like uhh 'muffin'. Just listen and find out yrself if u reli are curious. :P (coz i dun tink it's vry nice 2 post wad it actually means on my blog :S)

But from a more 'mature' point of view, the dance moves are pretty good, esp when you see your classmate trying 2 imitate gaga's dance moves. XD And at least I can say more effort is made to do this video than her previous single, Just Dance, or even any other track. It's one of the better videos I have seen ba. ;)

Finally ALL my tests are OVER!!! Woohoo!!!

I may hav screwed up Maths test thanks to my super sneaky and tricky maths teacher (the Png guy :P), but who cares? I got it over and done with. Hahax briefly talk about yesterday after the maths test. Everyone thought we will do really really well for the maths test, thinking it should b quite an ok ppr, the chance 2 get A1 if we work hard. However, Png decides to challenge our 'hardworking-ness' and gives us stuff outside textbook stuff. Things out of the ordinary, things you wouldn't imagine! Argh the more I think of it, the worse it gets. Sneaky man. And it didn't help that I saw him at the sch carpark while making my way to the EP stall. He gave that evil grin to me and my friends. HAHAX hilarious cheeky-looking old man. -.-

Haiz now, come to think of it (and after some calculations), I think I don't wanna pass. My target's either I pass wiv B4 and above, or I fail. Why? Because anything in between wouldn't warrant a re-test which is capped at 50%, with 70% of the 1st test taken in2 consideration. Hence the 'equilibrium' is 60% which is B4! So yea, praying to a god that I don't believe in again...

But 2day was a total contrast. For those who have seen my facebook status, you would hav known that I feared that the chem test 2day would be as tricky as the maths ppr. Apparently, it's the contrast of the contrast! It's ( I shouldn't say easy) pretty much easier! :P I've never been so confident in doing a paper before. I guess the only 'major blip' was the last 3 marks. Coz when I was doing the 2nd last qn, my chem teacher (who was my BSC teacher too: Mr Tan!) suddenly said 3 more mins. Instantaneously, I said 'HUH?!' (someone's favourite word, isn't it? :P) Then I just rushed through the whole of laz qn, then nv slowly think, so didn't noe how 2 do lor. >.<>

Let's make it as short as I possibly can. :D The video, shot in Prague, Czech Republic, shows Mraz and Caillat singing the song at a city square and a seaside respectively. Both of their parts were shot separately, duh! XD Mraz walks out of the square, entering a car, white Caillat sings her verse of the song while walking along the seaside.

Near the end of the video, Mraz is shown reaching the square and standing in front of a statue. Mraz then looks back and seem to have seen something that apparently, he's happy about. o.o And so does Caillat. (so i guess this means seeing each other? o.o)

It's a great romantic song, with a sweet sweet acoustic melody and vibe to the song. Pretty much a good pro-valentine song. ;) I think the song would be more loved by girls ba.

A good-ol' duet. It has almost everything you can ask for in a duet! The great merging of 2 voices as one, the own verses that is makes it seem like a lovely conversation between a guy and a girl, and even the overlapping of voices! Just great! :D :D :D 

Ang gosh, has anyone realise Colbie suddenly seem 2 have bulked up a little? Growing fatter, is it? o.o Her face is looking a lot like Mariah Carey! 

 

Haahx but oh my, both look hot :P And seriously, they now look like twins. -.- Oh btw just something that may shock you. One is 23+ years old, while the other is...ahem...nearing 40! (38 years old) O.O

Ok back to the song. Jason Mraz has this kind of cool dude voice that gives it a really feel-good factor to any song of his, like in the song I'm Yours. And as for Colbie Caillat, her voice just blends in effortlessly with Mraz, hence making it seem so easy to judge this song! 

Lyrics? Super romantic!!! Just look below later and you be the judge. Every sentence seems to be oh-so-sweet...and meaningful! ;) It's hard to fault such great lyrics. Imagine someone serenading this song...awesome eh? :D

There are also quite a number of interesting descriptions of items and wad's the word I'm looking for...oh SYNONYMS!!! :D Try and find them out ;)

However, like I said, I still don't really get why these 2 can't shoot their scenes at the same time. A good close-together will make this duet video a lot lot better. More...closer-to-the-heart, I should say. Or mebbe it's just coz my literal understanding sux. :P

But other than that, I so love the song!

The next song...hmm I shall say it as "a fitting song for the Valentine's Day". :D It's coming from self-professed kings who gave you a hit on Juliet! XD Oh you have gotta guessed it by now, it's We The Kings, with a song called

The video:

The video starts with a acoustic version of the chorus of the song by lead singer Travis Clark with an electronic piano. XD Then the whole room starts to light up, showing a party scene with the band performing in the centre, much like Check Yes Juliet (their previous music video). The next scene shows a girl who is talking to her friend before she started work. As she is putting on her waitress apron, she felt her PDA vibrating in the apron pocket and find a message saying 'Take your new car. Look in your pocket!" When she did, she found a note which says "Don't waste your last day...LEAVE NOW! Love, Trav." Immediately (after also being spurred on by her friend), she leaves work (taking the day off, i suppose). 

As she enters her car, she comes across another clue in the series of clue left by Travis about his apparent whereabouts. This time, it is a picture of Travis and her on a swing in a playground, with a note saying "Meet me here. XOXO-". Next, she drives to the playground, with scenes constantly showing the band performing in the quite brightly-lit room. Sitting on the swing, she keeps on looking around in the hope of finding Travis. A PDA on the swing is then picked up by the girl, which shows Travis holding a card saying ""The view from here would be better with you by MY side." The background behind Travis seem to be a bridge. (Is it the London Bridge? o.o) The girl leaves the playground and finds 2 of her friends leaning against her white car. Upon seeing, she embraces them. The following scene shows them driving to the location of where Travis is performing the song. The room is dimmed, with the spotlight only on Travis.

At the end of the video, Travis sees the girl, and smiles at her.

The GOOD, and the bad:

The ultimate Valentine's Day song! Especially for teens like us! Like seriously, you know majority of crushes and not-yet romances are all just in hiding coz we are shy to put it in words. The title of the song SAYS IT ALL!!!

To me, the music video version is actually better than the album version! I think they just included one part at the start of the video, where Travis Clark (the long blond haired 1 xD) does a little acoustic piano and man voice for the song. I luv acoustic love songs! :D Well, the quiet romance at the start of all relationships is brought out! ;)

Then it's back to the good-ol' We The Kings-style, rocking it out but surprisingly, still sticking to the main theme of a secret valentine throughout the whole video! It's not hard to understand the video, rite? Genius! :D

I like the story which constantly keeps you in suspense by constantly giving you notes to go 2 places here and there. It's so...secretive! XD The lighting in the room is quite professionally use, like when it's suppose 2 b quiet (as Travis singing without any rocking instruments playing), the room is dimly lit with only Travis in the main picture to bring our focus 2 him. :D

The way the band play the guitars are also great! Really really cool! And the lyrics? Hahax I have to say it's quite good! Teen-love kind of lyrics, like "Just close your eyes, we'll hope it's not for nothing at all."  ;)

To be honest, I have never really been a huge huge fan of We The Kings, but this song has slightly changed my view, just on the basis dat they can write good lyrics. ;)

However, I still don't like their image, esp Travis. Probably coz of his long blond hair and his piercing on the side of his mouth. I duno, it helps to give you a punk-rock band kind of image, dat's for sure, but for a love song like Secret Valentine, maybe not so. :S It just doesn't fit, sorry dude. :S And he looks a little messy, doesn't he? Well like I said, may be good for a punk-rock band image, but not so for a love song, even if it might be a lovely rock song. XD

Besides that, yes it might be cool the way the bandmates play the guitar and drums, but it does look a little rigid (and uhh fake?). :S So their only weakness FOR THIS SONG, is We The Kings' image ba.~

Oh talking about her, thanks thanks HUGE THANKS for the innovative gift she gave me as uhh...ahem...Christmas Gift! :D Well she said I had 2 wait, but I guess it was worthwhile. ;)

Actually the wait was not for the final gift, but it was for the initial gift of a designed T-shirt, rite you 3 (Yinghui, Joanne and Xinyi :D)? Hahax the reason was

 lazy, but I tink it's more of other commitments like cca n stuff ba. Ah well, I understand. ;) I was so looking forward to seeing wad T-shirt you all came up with :D, but in the end since it didn't fall through, it's ok. Maybe next tym, maybe next time...

By now you would have realised I haven talked a single bit about wad this innovative gift is. :P Hahax it's...tennis balls! But not just any normal tennis ball. It's, as Yinghui calls it, tennis balls with graffiti! XD

Before I start talking bout the tennis balls and something that came along of it, I think I shall just start all the way from how I got it from YH yesterday. :D Hahax yesterday's exchange was one of the weirdest from all the exchanges I have done with any of my friends. It all started from YH's squash trng at HCI which ended at around 6.30. I walked upstairs so as to avoid majority of the squash people to stare at me, but I think everytime YH looks up, everyone else looks up! So YINGHUI, YOU KNOW WAD TO DO! ;) DON'T LOOK UP!!! PRETEND I'M NOT THERE! We can't hear each other clearly, and neither do any of us dare to speak up...malu, I presume! :P

Something when you have too many good cards in your hand, you duno which to choose, which is the best decision for your overall life. O.O

Actually I've been thinking of hoping some singer can write a song about something on this line. It's an idea I thought of myself, smart eh? I dun wan write coz lazy, and to be honest, I dun hav dat ability to write awesome lyrics. :D Hehe so I shall just admire.

But back to the point. Pick a card! There's so many cards staring at you making you feel like all want to be picked by you. Argh, it's taking too much of brain space! >.<

As the Chinese saying goes, long pain is inferior to short pain. Do the translation yourself, and practise your inference skill from all that I've said. ;) Crush-ed.

Ooo, and this Saturday's gonna be gng out-filled. Although there's no tennis training this Saturday, I'm still going my father's fwen house. to get more hongbao! Hush Hush! Hehe too bad my youngest brother has 'dates', with both boys and girls, and a woman. XD Hahax think again before you start guessing randomly, and here's a clue: CNY just passed, so as sec 1s, you should have gone back somewhere. :D Do more inference :P Ok back to the Saturday.

Oh and 2day's Chinese test, I have like super huge confidence. Hopefully I'm right. Chinese Test lor. Cold Porridge (Chinese cher's nickname from his real name, Liangzhou XD). All answer in cloze passage is option 1 leh! Gosh I wrote all but 1 that is option 1! >.<

This prompted me to change my question 7 to option 4 lor. Hopefully I'm right. But judging form the majority of the class, I think I really need to 'pray to a god that I don't believe in'!!! :S (hehe lyrics~) Hopefully I'm right, but argh! Wrong nvm ba, 2 marks only. The others, I'm confident. ;)

And since someone said something that kinda made me puzzled 2day, I'm also happy. XD (weird~ ._.) Hahax yesterday was so eventful!!! 1st at training, we beat Benjamin and Wesley (good players, esp Ben!) 6-1! We played only 1 set as you can see. ;) But definitely we only thought about keeping it tight. I learnt a lot from that 1 match. Learnt to just keep on holding your own serve until you get an opportunity to break your opponent's game. Mental edge!~ ;) And learnt to hit return ACES. Oh ya! I hit 1 brilliant return ACE against Ben. Woohoo!!! He tried to approach the net after his hard 1st serve, but then I just swung my racket and the forward moving Ben went too far forward and missed my so-called passing shot!!! Woohoo! I think I actually shouted at that time! 

Hahax so I have Verdasco to thank, for 'teaching' me how 2 shout with passion, and more importantly, the awesome passing shot that beat Ben! Woohoo!!! Pity Verdasco lost to Nadal after 5hours and 14mins!!! O.O :( The score tells it all. 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 6-7 (2-7), 7-6 (7-1!), 4-6. It was so tightly-contested, total world-class tennis there coming from the world no. 1 and apparently, world no. 14 only!!! O.O Gosh I don't even know if I can play that long of any kind of tennis, not even noting that this is PROFESSIONAL TENNIS!!! Like the newspaper say, it's sad that there has to be only 1 winner in that match. :( :( :( At least I can be sure, Verdasco should be one of those to look out for in this year's tennis tournaments. I heard that his achievements of reaching the semis has guaranteed him of moving into the top 10 ranking! Should be number 9! Woohoo! Up, Up and up, he'll climb! ;)

Just look at the curling shot by Nadal and admire it 100%. I remember only Fernando Gonzalez did a similar shot before, and his shot curled even more! O.O It's shocking how they get so much spin in the shot and still control it!!! o.O

It's great to see both players smiling at each other after the point. Both had really good laughs here and there, and as said, it's sad that there can only be 1 winner in this cruel cruel world~~~ :(

I like Nadal's attitude. After the match ended, both players collapsed to the ground, exhausted. But Nadal, showing the kind of sportsmanship World No. 1's or any human being should have, he got up and climbed over the net to thank Verdasco for that wonderful match. He even applauded Verdasco as Verdasco dejectedly left the stadium. Really an example for many to follow! ;)

Anw back to my tennis. :D Actually, doubles I can coordinate quite well with Nicholas leh. We know wad each of us wanna do quite well. ;) Leave it 2 coach to pair up ba. :D

After tennis dat day, I went to my maternal side's aunt's house to celebrate CNY. O.O Hahax funny, coz I realise Guitar Hero is quite fun. The tilting of a guitar is so weird, and it made me miss duno how many notes. >.<

Oh, and the tests are back to haunt me again... :S

I support Verdasco to push for top 5. :D

This week's Alv's track of the week is coming from one of the greatest songwriters of the 21st century. Lemme recall you with some of his songwriting hits. Hahax how about Take A Bow by Rihanna? How about Unfaithful? Let Me Love You by Mario? And another of my favourite song, Gallery by Mario Vazquez? Argh who am I kidding? The picture below has such huge fonts...how can u miss the words?! Hahax so yea, it's Mad by Ne-yo. :D :D :D

I shall just keep this short and sweet. :D The video, shot in black and white only, 1st shows Ne-yo (acting as himself) arguing with his girlfriend. After furiously leaving the house, Ne-yo comes across a kid who ran onto the road. Ne-yo is supposedly seen running to the road, most probably to save the kid. However, the next scene showed Ne-yo standing there looking at the aftermath of the incident. The scene then moves between Ne-yo with his girlfriend again, and also Ne-yo singing in an empty place by himself. There is a scene which shows 'skeleton couples', which was later shown at the end as a link that Ne-yo did actually save the kid, and unfortunately passed on in an attempt to save him. The Ne-yo that appeared beside the girlfriend while he was singing, was just Ne-yo's 'ghost'.

The GOOD, and the bad:

Well this song has been my blogsong for wad 2 or 3 weeks? Hahax regret 2 have changed it, but u never know, I may just bring it back. ;) Why? Coz it's juz such a great song. Woohoo!!!

Let's start from the video. Many people would question why make black and white? Well again, thanks to my IHE (Lit) lessons, I think I kinda understand it better. :D :D :D The black and white effect is actually to signify the gloomy atmosphere of the song about being mad at one another, and apparently death of Ne-Yo's character in the video. Hence, very fitting! :D Plus point! :D

Moving on. Who actually know from the start of the video that Ne-Yo's character was suppose 2 his 'ghost'? Hahax not even me! I had 2 read wikipedia and infer from the lousy text there before I understood! XD But in the end, I like that idea of the video. The song, Mad, is about making up after an argument. Using a 'ghost' so as to see how Ne-Yo's girlfriend is reflecting on how much their love means 2 each other and how much she regretted what she is doing is just...woohoo! XD

Now to the man. Ne-Yo, Ne-Yo, Ne-Yo. Just how do you do it? He creates his own sound, his own image, and I can't see how he ever fails? Well it is possible, if he goes since punk rock! XD In his album, Year Of The Gentleman, almost every song is a great song! If you look carefully at the lyric, Most, if not all, of the songs are really about gentleman supposedly respecting the opposite gender. Hahax pro pro pro. Image!

Cool gentleman? O.O I think that's the image he's trying 2 show. XD does it work though? :S

Most importantly, the lyrics is just one of a kind! Gosh how many people would think about writing arguments into a song? The piano play is so sweet and definitely, this song will forever be in my playlist, b'coz I luv music with have great guitar/piano solos, mebbe drums too. ;) Not only did Ne-Yo do that, he did it darn well. ;)

Hahax I shall take someone's, called clairvoyant_khie's, quote which best summarises the whole song. :D
